Visit and Exchange at Yonsei University

Dean Penny-Ssu Peng of the College of Humanities and Education, Chairperson Yu-Fen Liu of the Department of Applied Chinese Language and Literature, and Director Jun-Kuan Liang, overseeing first-year international students across the university, visited Yonsei University. During the visit, they presented academic papers at the seminar.
According to Taiwan in Korea, Taipei Representative Office in Korea, the “2nd Taiwan-Korea International Conference on Chinese Language Teaching Research” was held on January 24, 2025, at the Baekyangnuri International Conference Room of Yonsei University’s Institute of Chinese Studies. Deputy Representative Chiu-Wen Kuo was invited to deliver a congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony. She noted that Korea began promoting Chinese language learning in the 1990s, with a surge in popularity after 2000, accumulating substantial teaching experience and research achievements in Chinese language education. The first Taiwan-Korea conference, co-hosted by National Taiwan Normal University and Yonsei University in 2023, highlighted the importance of understanding and advancing Chinese language teaching in Korea.
For this conference, special thanks were extended to Dean Hyun-Cheol Kim of Yonsei University’s Institute of Chinese Studies for his efforts in bringing together scholars from the Korean Association for Chinese Literature, the Korean Society for Chinese Language Education, and the Korean Chinese Education Research Association. Representatives from National Taiwan Normal University, including Vice President Yao-Ting Sung and faculty from the Department of Chinese Language Education, as well as Dean Penny-Ssu Peng and faculty from the Department of Applied Chinese Language and Literature, participated actively. This event not only continued bilateral exchanges but also aimed to promote the positive development of Chinese language education between Taiwan and Korea.
Deputy Representative Kuo also shared that her expertise lies in Korean linguistics, and prior to her appointment she frequently attended conferences in Korea, gaining valuable insights and inspiration from scholarly discussions. She expressed hope that this event would deepen bilateral collaboration and, through research sharing and exchange of ideas among Taiwanese and Korean faculty, help enhance teaching professionalism and its application in future instruction.
