“The 2nd Korea–Taiwan International Conference on Chinese Language Teaching Research”
Deputy Representative Chiu-Wen Kuo was invited to attend the 2nd Korea–Taiwan International Conference on Chinese Language Teaching Research, held by the Institute of Chinese Studies at Yonsei University on January 24, 2025, at the Baekyangnuri International Conference Hall.
In her congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony, Deputy Representative Kuo noted that Korea began promoting Chinese language learning in the 1990s and experienced a surge in popularity after 2000, accumulating a wealth of teaching experience and research results in the field. She also highlighted that in 2023, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and Yonsei University jointly held the first conference, demonstrating the academic community’s deep interest in the development of Chinese language education in Korea.
This year’s conference owes much to the dedication of Dean Kim Hyun-Cheol of Yonsei University’s Institute of Chinese Studies, who brought together scholars from the Korean Society of Chinese Language and Literature, the Korean Society for Chinese Language Education, and the Korean Chinese Education Research Association. Taiwanese participants included Vice President Yao-Ting Sung and professors from NTNU’s Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, as well as Dean Penny S. Peng and faculty members from Chung Yuan Christian University’s College of Humanities and Education and Department of Applied Chinese Language and Culture.
With the active participation of scholars from both sides, this conference not only continues the tradition of bilateral academic exchange but also promotes the positive development of Chinese language education between Taiwan and Korea.
Deputy Representative Kuo, whose research specializes in Korean linguistics, mentioned that before her current posting, she frequently visited Korea to participate in academic conferences, where scholarly discussions often inspired new ideas and insights. She expressed her hope that this year’s event would further deepen bilateral collaboration and, through mutual research sharing and exchange among Taiwanese and Korean educators, enhance their professional teaching expertise and practical application in future instruction.
