International Visit and Exchange
- In the first semester of the 2024 academic year, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages signed a dual bachelor’s–master’s degree program with the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom. On October 24, 2024, Ms. Zhu Zhu, Head of International Affairs for the School of Language, Literature, Music, and Visual Culture and Director of Modern Languages and Translation & Interpreting, led Dean Chris Collins to visit the Department. In addition to holding consultations with students and taking a campus tour, they also engaged in academic exchanges with the full-time faculty.
- The Department of Applied Chinese engaged in discussions on internship cooperation with Vietnam’s “How Are You? Chinese Lab” and the TomorrowLand Academy preschool education institution in Southern California, USA.
- On September 2, 2024, the University’s Bachelor Program for International Students (Undeclared Major for Freshmen) hosted Professor Aya Nishihashi from Ritsumeikan University in Japan. The program provided an overview of its recent developments and engaged in discussions regarding matters such as internships and student exchanges.
- On September 13, 2024, the University’s Bachelor Program for International Students (Undeclared Major for Freshmen) hosted Mr. Huang Weixun from the Osaka Formosa Japanese Language School. In addition to visiting Mr. Masahiko Jingu, a Japanese student enrolled in the first semester of the 2024 academic year, Mr. Huang also engaged in discussions with the program regarding student recruitment.
- Professor Matyáš from the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, visited from December 2 to December 6, 2024. During his stay, he delivered two special lectures. The topic of the December 3 lecture was “Personality Tests: Chinese Language Teaching from a Czech Perspective,” and the topic of the December 4 lecture was “The Best of Both Worlds: How to Shape Western Thinking While Learning Chinese in Taiwan.”
- Dean Peng Nisi, Director Liang Junkuan, and Director Liu Yufen visited Yonsei University from January 22 to January 26, 2025, to engage in academic exchange and collaboration, as well as to discuss the establishment of a sister-school partnership.
- Pastor Yang Chenghao, Senior Pastor of Grace Church of the Montreal Chinese Alliance Church, and Mrs. Huang Jingying visited the Institute of Religious Studies on August 5, 2024.
- The Institute of Religious Studies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on an exchange program with the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The second phase of the agreement, starting in 2024, will be valid for five years.
- Mr. Hong Xian-cai from Chong Hui Primary School in Singapore and Ms. Fu Aifen, a former official of the Singapore Ministry of Education, visited the Department of Applied Chinese, the Department of Special Education, and the Chinese Language Teaching Center from April 28 to April 29, 2025. They also toured the university’s “Metaverse Smart Classroom” and personally experienced the innovative application of AR/VR technology in language teaching.
- Professor Park Jeong-gu from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Seoul National University visited the university and delivered two special lectures: on May 21, 2025, his lecture was titled “Teaching Chinese Grammar from the Perspective of Information Structure”, and on May 22, 2025, his lecture was titled “Challenges and Teaching Strategies for Korean Students Learning Chinese.”
- Teaching Professor Li Kunshan from the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University, USA, delivered a lecture on June 11, 2025, titled “Designing Professional-Use Chinese Courses through CLAC and Community-Engaged Learning.”
- Professor Zhang Xiaoqi from the Institute of Teaching and Research invited Dr. Andrea Mazzon, an international scholar from the Department of Economics at the University of Verona, Italy, to give an online lecture on December 4, 2024, titled “Teaching Math in the Age of AI.”
- Professor Zhang Xiaoqi from the Institute of Teaching and Research invited Winai Wongthai, an international scholar from Naresuan University, Thailand, to lead a team for lectures on March 4, 2025, titled “AI and Quantum Technology at CYCU” and “The System for Enhancing Equitable Social and Economic Opportunity in Thailand”. They also introduced the application of the ESS system in education.
- During the 2024 winter vacation, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages signed a dual bachelor’s–master’s degree program with the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom. Ms. Zhu Zhu, currently Head of International Affairs for the School of Language, Literature, Music, and Visual Culture and Director of Modern Languages and Translation & Interpreting, was invited to explain the dual degree program and introduce the University of Aberdeen to department heads and advisors on March 13, 2024.
- On January 8, 2024, the Department of Applied Chinese signed a student exchange agreement with Bina Darma University in Indonesia. Under this agreement, students from both institutions may attend courses and participate in exchanges at the partner university as exchange students. In February 2024, two students from Bina Darma University came to our university as exchange students for one semester.
- On October 24, 2023, Professor Lim Young-taek of Seoul Theological University in Korea and his wife visited the Institute of Religious Studies. Professor Lim brought with him the three-volume translated edition of The Nestorian Stele—An Exegesis of the Jingjiao Documents. He and the original author, Director Wu Chang-xing, engaged in an in-depth discussion about the challenges of the translation process and future research topics.
- On November 21, 2023, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research invited Dr. Shigeru Iwakabe (Ritsumeikan University), a professor in the Department of Psychology, to deliver a lecture and workshop titled “Adolescent Self-Harm and Emotion-Focused Counseling.” In addition to graduate students from the institute, psychologists, full-time counselors, and other frontline counseling practitioners were also invited to participate. Through dialogue integrating research and practice, the event aimed to strengthen the connection between theory and application. A total of 134 participants attended.
- On December 14, 2023, Director Hsiung Yu-wen of the Department of Applied Chinese invited Associate Dean Hung Wei from Purdue University (USA) to deliver a lecture titled “A Comprehensive View of Beginning Chinese—From Theory to Practice.”
- On the evening of December 11, 2023, the Divinity School of Chung Chi College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong held an online briefing session (via Zoom) for its exchange student program. Partner institutions were invited to share, and Professor Wang Xuesheng represented the Director to introduce the Institute of Religious Studies and handle the Q&A session.
- Jonathan Ro, Deputy Director for Accreditation of the Asia Theological Association (ATA), and President Hsu Chen-Yi of the U.S. Global Mission Seminary jointly visited the Institute of Religious Studies. Director Wu Chang-xing and Chaplain Office Director Professor O. Liren hosted the visit and presented the current status and development of the Institute. The meeting fostered warm fellowship and meaningful exchange between both parties.
- On May 17, 2024, the Department of Applied Chinese held the “CYCU–Purdue University One-Day Student Cultural Exchange Camp.” A group of 18 Chinese-language learners from Purdue University visited, and 10 students from various departments of the university served as camp counselors.
- On May 20, 2024, the Department of Applied Chinese invited Professor Wang Rumin from the University of Virginia (USA) to deliver a lecture titled “A Fantastical Journey in Teaching Chinese—Exploring Diverse Teaching Cultures at Home and Abroad.”
- On May 27, 2024, the Department of Applied Chinese invited Professor Matija from the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, to give a lecture to the department’s master’s program titled “Learning a ‘Truly’ Foreign Language Through Riddles.”
- On May 16, 2024, a group of 47 faculty and students from the “Learning and Exchange Program on Taiwanese Christianity in Times of Social Transformation,” led by Professor Ying Fuk-Tsang of the Divinity School of Chung Chi College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, visited the Institute of Religious Studies and toured the Christian Archives Room.
- The Institute of Religious Studies and the Divinity School of Chung Chi College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong signed a student exchange program in 2019. This year, with the contract period ending, the Institute formally submitted a proposal to the university in June to continue the sister-school collaboration and renew the program for another five years, aiming to expand academic exchanges between the two institutions.
- On July 8, 2024, Professor Lin Zichun from Melbourne School of Theology in Australia visited. Professors Wu Chang-xing, Xie Pin-ran, and Wang Xuesheng from the Institute of Religious Studies hosted the visit, and both sides enjoyed meaningful interaction and exchange.
- From December 5 to 9, 2022, the Center for Chinese Language Teaching held an online language and cultural exchange camp with Ciyu University in Indonesia. A total of 140 participants attended, with a budget of NT$15,000.
- From March 5 to March 25, 2023, the Center for Chinese Language Teaching, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs, held a Chinese Language and Culture Study Camp for a Japanese sister school. The program had 15 participants, with a budget of NT$276,000.
- On November 30 and December 3–4, 2022, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research invited Dr. Shigeru Iwakabe (Ritsumeikan University), a professor in the Department of Psychology, to deliver lectures and conduct an Emotion-Focused Therapy intensive workshop. The program combined multiple activities, including “theory + case studies + practical exercises.” In addition to graduate students from the institute, psychologists, full-time counselors, and other frontline counseling practitioners were also invited to participate. The event fostered dialogue between practice and research, enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
- On April 11, 2023, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research assisted the university in organizing the 2023 Thai Chinese Language Teachers’ Training Program, sponsored by the Overseas Community Affairs Council. She taught the course “Educational Psychology and Child Psychological Analysis,” which was attended by 38 Thai teachers.
- From November 14 to 15, 2022, the Taoyuan City Government and the American Institute in Taiwan held the event “2022 Taiwan–U.S. Education Initiative: Building a Friendly International Education Environment,” inviting schools with experience in international educational exchanges to participate. Professors Yang Qing-lin and Lin Jun-hong from the Graduate Institute of Educational Research were invited to attend, sharing the university’s experience in all-English instruction, promotion of internationalization, distinctive features, and the implementation of dual-degree programs.
- On March 7, 2023, the Interdisciplinary Program for International Students hosted Professor Abumiya from Japan’s Mejiro University. Director Liang introduced Professor Abumiya to the current status of the first-year interdisciplinary program and welcomed exchange students to study Chinese in the program.
- On December 7, 2021, and December 16, 2022, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research invited Dr. Shigeru Iwakabe (Professor at the Institute of Humanities and Sciences, Ochanomizu University, Tokyo, Japan) to conduct online lectures on “Emotion-Focused Therapy” with case study discussions. The sessions promoted dialogue and exploration between practice and research, enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
- From December 13 to 17, 2021, the Center for Chinese Language Teaching held an online language and cultural exchange camp with Ciyu University in Indonesia, with 123 participants.
- From February 19 to March 26, 2022, the Center for Chinese Language Teaching, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs, co-organized two online Chinese study camps: the “ASEAN High School Online Chinese Study Camp,” with 20 participants, and the “Japanese Sister School Online Chinese Study Camp,” held from March 6 to March 25, 2022, also with 20 participants.
- On May 26, 2022, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research invited Dr. Shigeru Iwakabe (Professor, Department of Psychology, Ritsumeikan University, Japan) to conduct an online case-study lecture on “Corrective Emotional Experience in Therapy.” In addition to graduate students from the institute, psychologists, full-time counselors, and other frontline counseling practitioners were invited to participate. The event fostered dialogue between practice and research, enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
- On March 15, 2022, Professor Jian Zhifeng of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research was invited by the Psychological Counseling Center of the University of Macau’s “Zin Li Shi Ba Ma” program to host a Facebook Live session titled “A Little Frontal Lobe Development Handbook.” The discussion focused on how to cultivate children’s learning motivation, rebuild their desire to learn, and develop the skills they will need in the future. The participants found the session highly beneficial.
- On June 12, 2022, Chair Professor Hong Lan from the Graduate Institute of Educational Research participated in the Office of International Affairs’ Overseas Teacher Workshop, delivering online live courses on “The Relationship Between Sleep, Memory, and Learning from a Brain Perspective” and “The Relationship Between Emotion and Health from a Brain Perspective.” Approximately 306 school administrators and teachers from high schools in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei attended the sessions.
- On December 15, 2020, and June 16, 2021, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research invited Dr. Shigeru Iwakabe (Professor, Institute of Humanities and Sciences, Ochanomizu University, Tokyo, Japan) to conduct online lectures on “Emotion-Focused Therapy” and “Corrective Emotional Experience in Therapy.” The sessions promoted dialogue and exploration between practice and research, enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
- On June 4, 2021, Director Li Po of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research participated in the Office of International Affairs’ Overseas Teacher Workshop, delivering an online live course titled “Learn First, Teach Later: Let Learning Guide Teaching.” Approximately 220 school administrators and teachers from high schools in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei attended the session.
- From July 17 to July 24, 2021, Professor Du Shufen of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research and two graduate students participated online in the 32nd International Congress of Psychology (ICP 2020) held in the Czech Republic and presented their papers.
- From August 17 to 23, 2019, a delegation of 21 people led by Vice President Cai Hongsheng of Central China Normal University visited Taiwan for the “2019 Central China Normal University Faculty and Student Taiwan Tour Exchange Camp.” Staff from the General Education Center accompanied them to facilitate the exchange activities.
- In October 2018, the Institute of Religious Studies signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Center for Religion and Chinese Society Studies at Shanghai University to promote mutual visits and collaborative exchanges between researchers and graduate students from both institutions.
- In March 2019, the Institute of Religious Studies signed a “Student Exchange Program Memorandum” with the Divinity School of Chung Chi College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Starting from the 2019 academic year, each institution will exchange one student annually to study at the partner school, providing outstanding students with broader learning opportunities and helping them expand their international perspective.
- From August 10 to 16, 2018, a delegation of 23 people led by Deputy Secretary Luo Jun of Central China Normal University visited Taiwan for the “2018 Central China Normal University Faculty and Student Taiwan Tour Exchange Camp.” Staff from the General Education Center accompanied them to facilitate the exchange activities.
- On September 17, 2018, a delegation of six people led by Professor Ma Min, Director of the Institute of Modern Studies at Central China Normal University, along with two faculty members from Chinese Culture University, visited Chung Yuan Christian University. The visit was arranged by the Office of the President and the General Education Center.
- On December 6, 2018, a delegation of 12 people led by President Guo Shejun of Hebei Jiaotong Vocational and Technical College visited Chung Yuan Christian University, where both sides held a discussion and exchange session.
- On December 19, 2018, a delegation of 15 people led by Deputy Director Li Dong of the Personnel Office of Changchun Normal University visited Chung Yuan Christian University, where both sides held a discussion and exchange session.
- On January 8, 2019, Dr. Zou Yongheng, Academic Dean of the Chinese Canadian School of Theology and President of the International Christian Education Institute, Pastor Lü Hongji, Secretary-General of the Chinese Bible Education Association, and Pastor Li Yihua from the Center for Christian Church Education Research visited the Institute of Religious Studies. Both sides exchanged views on Chinese Christian education and discussed potential directions for future collaboration.
- From May 25 to 26, 2018, the Department of Special Education and the Special Education Center held the “2018 Early Childhood Inclusive Education Workshop and Paper Presentation Conference.” Professors Steven Warren and Eva Horn from the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas, USA, were invited to give keynote lectures. Approximately 190 participants attended over the two days.
- From December 13 to 17, 2017, the Department of Applied Chinese invited Dean Jin Honggang of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Macau to Taiwan for a short-term visit, during which lectures and discussion sessions were held.
- On December 7, 2017, a delegation of 30 people from Taiping Chinese United Secondary School in Malaysia visited the Department of Applied Chinese to participate in course experiences and discussion sessions.
- From December 10 to 20, 2017, the Department of Applied Chinese organized a “Chinese Language Teacher Training Program for Indonesian and Bruneian High School Teachers” for a visiting group of seven teachers.
- From June 10 to 16, 2018, Director Li Po, Professor Du Shufen, and Professor Deng Wenzhang of the Graduate Institute of Educational Research assisted the Office of International Affairs in conducting the “Malaysian and Bruneian High School Teachers’ Counseling Capacity-Building Workshop,” offering three short-term courses during the exchange program.
- From July 2 to 10, 2018, the Center for Christian and Chinese Cultural and Social Studies held the 6th Summer Christian Studies Exchange Program. A total of 13 university Christian youth from Taiwan, Mainland China, and Hong Kong registered to participate, aiming to promote exchanges among pastoral leaders and Christian researchers across the regions.
- During the 2017 academic year, the Institute of Religious Studies hosted two visiting scholars for short-term research: Professor He Aixia from Shandong Theological Seminary and doctoral candidate Shen Daowei from the National University of Singapore. Additionally, Ms. Yang Yi, a doctoral student from the Faculty of Chinese Studies at the University of Hong Kong, visited for one year to observe and conduct research.
- From July 10 to 18, 2017, the Center for Christian and Chinese Cultural and Social Studies held the 5th “2017 Summer Research Exchange Program on Christianity and Taiwanese History.” A total of 13 participants, including pastors, preachers, and theological students from Mainland China and Hong Kong, registered. The program provided an opportunity for Mainland Chinese pastoral leaders and Christian researchers to study in Taiwan, thereby promoting cross-strait Christian exchanges.
- From August 11 to 17, 2017, a delegation of 29 people led by Vice President Wang Enke of Central China Normal University visited Taiwan for the “2017 Central China Normal University Faculty and Student Taiwan Tour Exchange Camp.” Staff from the General Education Center accompanied them to facilitate the exchange activities.
- On November 14, 2017, a delegation of eight faculty members from Wuhan University and Fudan University visited the General Education Center and held an exchange session.
